Dare I Confess?

Okay. I will.

Last night I rented and watched 'Brokeback Mountain,' and I have to confess that I enjoyed it. I got caught up in the relationship between Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist and I found it moving and thought provoking.

Though M/M stories have never interested me, I can't say as I saw this as one. While it dealt with the gay love affair of two cowboys on the surface, I think the story was more about the meeting of soul mates. It doesn't matter what sex you are, when you meet your soul mate, you know it and you strive to have a relationship regardless of the consequences.

My views on soulmates are little different than most because I'm Gnostic, so I believe we aren't sent here to 'find' our soulmates. We know exactly where they are for the most part. When soul mates incarnate together, they usually have a relationship that is so intense it's almost destructive. That describes the relationship in Brokeback.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie, regardless of the fact that it offended my husband's 'male sensibilities' [his words as he stalked into the basement to play manly and violent video games].
I wonder if I would have liked it as much, if it had been about a traditional m/f couple?

If you've seen it, I'd love to know what you thought about it.

Okay, I'll make a confession. Not only have I not seen it, but I haven't had the urge to see it. Not because of the M/M thing -- that doesn't affect my decision one way or the other. The blurb and commercials just didn't catch my fancy.

Maybe I should reconsider...

I didn't find the sex scenes terribly explicit, just not something I'm used to seeing. I'll say this, from the standpoint of a romance author, I found it worth watching.

I'm with Lynn. I've heard rave reviews about it and that the x-scenes are subtle but I'm just not interested. I'm into action filled movies. I've always hated dramas since the Elephant man when I was a kid. Heck, I didn't even want to watch 'The Titanic' because I knew it had a sad ending, so hence I didn't watch it for the longest time. I watched a bit when it was on TV but not my cup of tea.

I don't like sad movies either, but Titanic blew me away! I was ten months pregnant with my son when I saw it in the theater. I sat through the whole thing even though I had to pee something fierce and I cried and cried. Loved every minute of it, too! Drama usually doesn't do it for me - give me the Firefly movie or Buckaroo Banzai any day, but there are those special few I'll sit through.

I never did see it. I almost bought it on DVD. But I changed my mind when I realized my new DVD player is still sitting in the cotton-picking box! Someday I'll set that up an rent it.
