Thursday Thirteen #2

Thirteen of my Favorite Lines

1. Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn.
2. Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?
3. Wherever you go, there you are.
4. To boldly go where no man has gone before.
5. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
6. I am not a crook.
7. Where’s the beef?
8. I’ll be back.
9. Don’t worry, be happy.
10. You can’t handle the truth.
11. Play it again, Sam.
12. Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou, Romeo?
13. Go ahead, make my day.

So, can you name where they all come from?

Hmmm, let me see how I do:

1. Gone with the Wind
4. Star Trek
5. Moon Landing
7. Wendy's
8. Terminator
9. Bobby Ferrin
10. A Few Good Men [saw this the other day and it still gets you - go Jack!]
11. Casablanca
12. Romeo and Juliet
13. Dirty Harry

Great list! You know them, heard them before, but when asked to write where they're from, doubt settles in.

I recognized most of these. I love lines that you can quote at random and everyone gets. Fun stuff. hehe

Now, not to be picky, but they never actually SAY Play it again, Sam, in Casablanca. I've always wondered how that line got to be so famous when it's not even in the movie? I might have to research that! I recognized all but #3, otherwise.

Aha! I was curious enough to look it up, and Wikipedia knew the answer ;)

When Ilsa first enters the Café Americain, she spots Sam and asks him to "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake." He lies unconvincingly, claiming "I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa", to which she replies "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By.' " When Rick hears the song, not realizing yet that Ilsa is there, he rushes over and angrily exclaims "I thought I told you never to play that!" Later, alone with Sam, he says "You played it for her and you can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can! Play it!" In A Night in Casablanca, all this dialogue was parodied using the line "Play it again, Sam" — a phrase which has incorrectly become associated with the original film.

Thanks for stopping by, Tilly! You got 'em all!

Hi Dragonheart and Christine, thanks for stopping by. I was going to do more obscure quotes, but I thought these would be more fun.

Angela, you're right - it's one of those lines that everyone is going to remember the wrong way. Like Shakespeare: Out, out, damn spot! Is really, Out, damn, spot! Out, I say! and Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well, is really Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him, Horatio.

I love those! I want to do them some time :)

These are great. My husband and I always tell each other you can't handle the truth. LOL

Hi Shelli!

Karen, my husband always says that line all the time, too!

OMG. "Wherever you go, there you are." The Brady Bunch movie (a guilty pleasure!) Love it, love it, love it.

Now I'll have "Sunshine Day" running thru my brain for the rest of the day! LOL.

Wow! Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Jen, like I said, Rennassiance Woman!

Gina, that line is from the Brady Bunch movie too? I was thinking Buckaroo Banzai. Ooh, that gives me an idea for another TT list.

Ahh, the catch phrases we grew up with.... Great list!

I know. I know.

Great lines all! I'm going to have to start participating in this Thursday Thirteen. Sounds like fun.

And just like the line, "Play it again, Sam," did you know that in Star Trek no one ever says, "Beam me up, Scotti"? - It's always the number to be beamed. "Scotti, two to beam up."

Just a little fun fact, and only true Trekkies know it. (Points to self)
