Holy Bleep!

What would you say if Heather Locklear signed on to play the heroine of your latest book in a TV movie?

Apparently this was Nora Roberts’s reaction when told the line-up of actors slated to star in the TV adaptations of her books, Angels Fall, Montana Sky, Blue Smoke and Carolina Moon.

The stories are going to be Lifetime original movies shown on Monday nights from January 29th to February 19th.

I’m looking forward to the movies. I’ve read Angels Fall but not the others and it will be interesting to see how the stories translate. I’ve seen some Harlequin stories made into movies and...well...eh. Hopefully Lifetime will do La Nora’s work justice.

It’s never easy to translate a book to film. Some kick butt – for instance the Harry Potter movies, though many would argue that a two hour film is far too short for one installment of JK Rowling’s teenage wizard. Others not so much – I’ve heard mixed reviews about the film version of The DaVinci Code. I liked the movie, LOVED the book. If they’d chosen Harrison Ford as the lead character rather than the inarguably talented but not quite as good looking Tom Hanks, I think DC would have been a whole different ball game, but that’s just me.

Anytime Harrison Ford wants to star in one of my books-made-into-a-movie, he’s more than welcome to. That would be worth saying Holy Bleep about.

I think one of the problems with books being made into movies (if you've read the book) is that you go in with predetermined expectations.

Even Harrison Ford couldn't save Presumed Innocent (great book, crappy movie imho).

Still I'll probably tune into Angel Falls to see how they did.

True about predetermined expectations. If I had to choose, I suppose I'd rather read a book first, then see the movie, though, because with the book, you get the whole story and that's not always true with the movie.

I have the predetermined notion that the books are better. For me that is because I enjoy the characters in Nora Robert's books so much.

That's hard to put on screen without someone like... Scott Bakula! I'm a fan of his too.

I think I might tape the movies, so I can watch after a re-read/read.

PS - I'm 1/2 way done with 3rd book in the Circle Trilogy. I've been enjoying this series.

Just watched Carolina Moon this week...it's one of my fav books and the movie wasn't bad...the main character, given to psychic flashs was played by an actress I only know from CSI:NY (she plays Payton, Mac's love interest & a coroner)..very odd to hear a Southern drawl instead of a British accent, but I got over it ;-)
