Thursday Thirteen #4

Thirteen Things I’d Want to Be if I Wasn’t a Writer

1. A psychologist [I like to analyze people’s motives for doing things they do]
2. A medical transcriptionist [Since I could still work at home]
3. A graphic artist
4. A gardener [I really do like plants. They don’t care much for me, though]
5. A zoologist [I love animals]
6. A bookstore owner [If I didn’t write them, it might be fun to sell them]
7. A restaurant reviewer [dream job – get paid to eat out??]
8. A forensic anthropologist [dream big, right? I watch too much BONES]
9. A photographer for National Geographic
10. An FBI profiler [how cool would it be to catch a serial killer?]
11. A millionaire [writin’ ain’t no way to get rich, that’s for sure]
12. A lady of leisure
13. A forest ranger [seriously, I think it would be fun]

Oh, that myth about medical transcription...

Believe it or not, most places expect you to work in an office--at least, around here.

The others? Yeah, I'm with you. Love reading all John Douglas's books on FBI Profiling. If you haven't checked him out, do so!

I absolutely could not own a bookstore. I'd be curled up in a corner reading all day, telling people to just put their money on the counter on the way out >G<

SWEET! I'd want to be a bunch of different stuff, too...LOL

Bookstore owner for me!

A few of my friends and I actually talked about opening a business together. One loves to bake, one is into crafty stuff, and I'm the book junkie. We thought the 3 together would make a great business. Hmm, why didn't we ever do it?

What a great post!

Oh, that myth about medical transcription...

Actually I was a medical transciptionist for several years and I worked at home. I transcribed medical meetings and seminars though, not medical records. The $$ was great, but the deadlines were horrendous and I finally burned out. A friend of mine does medical records from home and her workload is actually quite grueling.

Elle, I knew a woman once who opened a store called "A Book and Cookie" she was selling used books and home baked goods. Heaven.

I so want to own a book store some day! After I become Nora's Mini-Me

I'd have to go with Gemologist. Or maybe a lapidary, although I doubt I have the motor skills.

I dunno about being a profiler... Fascinating subject, but if I actually had to see the things they see, hear the things they hear, and do the things they do, I think the "I need a shower RIGHT NOW" factor might do me in.

Fun list. Got me thinking. Have a good Thursday =)

Millionaire would be nice. Or Millionaire bookstore owner. Or millionaire bookstore owner who occasionally hunted down ancient artifacts ala Lara Croft lmao

I'm with you on the bookstore. That was always my dream when I didn't think I could write.
I loved the book "Death On Demand" by Carolyn Hart (I think that's right) about a bookstore owner with tons of classic references to mystery books I love.

How about International Woman of Mystery?

Fun list!

I'd love to be a graphic artist/bookstore owner/or a member of a real CSI team.

I'd have loved to own a bookstore. I love to be surrounded by books.

Wow, it looks like bookstore owner is the consensus. Do you think a bookstore run by a writer would work out? After all, I'd be tempted to read all day, too.

I wanted to be a graphic artist.. till I was one. Then, I got burned-out an quit. Now, I only do it for fun, not a job!

I'd like to be a business owner. I just don't know what type of business yet...

No way, do I want to work for big companies, schools, etc. No power!

Great list! Bookshop owner could be fun. There's a cool store near me called Booked for Murder. A little cramped, but the place to go for hard to find mysteries and thrillers, or a popular writer's backlist.

I actually considered architecture at one time - until I realized how much math it involves. I am sooo not a mathematician (yet oddly, have often been drawn to math nerds...go figure). I can balance a checkbook, but algebra or figuring out the degree of an angle? Not. gonna. happen.

A FBI profile would be awesome, at least the Hollywood version of them.

I also wanted to own a bookstore/coffee shop, or a bakery (I love food). That store near you, Heather, sounds great.

Great list! I have worked so many jobs in my life. I dream of doing many more.

I was a graphic artist, too. Didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

I love this topic and am stealing it for a future TT. :D

Oooh - pretty blog. If i wasn't an artist...oh who are we kidding, like i could be anything else. But i think i woulda made a dang fine psychologist too. I actually wanted to go into Art Therapy but there were no programs for that in the South when I went to College.

And look at all my blogbuds hanging out over here! Waving: Elle, Crystal, Ninja RG, Kickass Tempest, Angela-wench, and Kate-darlin'!

Art Therapy is wonderful. I'm a crafter, and I always feel better after I make something or paint something. It's good for the soul.

Sign me up for #1!

I want to go back to school and I waffle between a psychologist and English Lit. I'm leaning towards psych.

I don't think I could come up with 13 hobs I'd like - I'm too lazy!! LOL

Definitely either 7 or 12 for me!

Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog.
